Severe weather and flooding in Norway

Overview

Heavy rainfall and high winds have triggered significant weather alerts and disruptions across various regions in Norway. Initially, meteorological and hydrological warnings were issued, including an orange flood warning for parts of Telemark—specifically Grenland, Kragerø, and Midt-Telemark—due to risks of flooding, erosion, and landslides. A yellow weather warning for high winds was also in effect for Southern Norway, with gusts potentially reaching 27–33 meters per second.

As the weather progressed, the impact intensified. In Buskerud, flooding led to the closure of the road between Eidsfoss and Hakavik. Power outages affected approximately 1,000 customers in the Vestfold, Grenland, Hjartdal, and Svelvik areas after trees fell on power lines. Additionally, ferry services in Kragerø were canceled, and the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) maintained the orange flood warning as water levels were expected to rise.
