Severe weather and heat across the United States

Severe weather threats have been identified across multiple regions of the United States. Initially, the lower Mississippi River Valley and parts of Louisiana faced warnings for intense thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, heavy rain, and small hail, alongside ongoing heat advisories.

By mid-week, the scope of weather concerns expanded. Severe weather threats, including large hail and wind gusts up to 65 mph, were projected for the Upper Midwest and parts of the South, such as Alabama. Additionally, a persistent heat dome in the Southwest and Southern Plains has increased wildfire risks, while the National Hurricane Center began monitoring two tropical areas for potential development.

Recent activity shows intensified severe thunderstorm watches and warnings across several regions. In the Midwest, parts of northeast and southeast South Dakota, as well as west-central Minnesota, face threats of large hail and damaging winds, with an intensified supercell near Aberdeen raising specific concerns. In the central plains, warnings have been issued for Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, and Goshen, Wyoming, with wind gusts expected up to 60 mph. Southwest Alabama remains under a severe thunderstorm watch with potential gusts reaching 65 mph.

Meteorological trends indicate the heat dome is persisting across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Southern Plains, maintaining high wildfire danger. Furthermore, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor tropical developments in the Atlantic and near Bermuda, which may increase swell and rip current risks for coastal waters.
