Severe weather and tornadoes in southern Brazil

Overview

Severe weather, including heavy rains and a tornado, struck southern Brazil, specifically impacting the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná. In Rio Grande do Sul, a cold front and intense rainfall displaced 2,686 people across 117 municipalities and resulted in one fatality.

In Paraná, a tornado was confirmed in Piraí do Sul, damaging 45 properties, including six houses, two agricultural warehouses, and a health center. The tornado affected approximately 530 people, with 35 residents displaced.

Relief efforts have commenced, with the State Civil Defense delivering 2,600 fiber-cement tiles, mattresses, and dormitory kits to assist in reconstruction. Local authorities are working to establish a formal State of Emergency decree to facilitate humanitarian aid, restore essential services, and provide financial resources for affected farmers.
