Sexual assault investigations in Italy

Overview

Italian authorities have launched investigations into separate incidents of sexual misconduct in Tuscany and Brescia. In Brescia, the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office is examining allegations that an 18-year-old woman was subjected to sexual violence and harassment by her brother and cousin over several years. This investigation was prompted by a psychologist's report following the victim's request for psychological assistance.

In Tuscany, the Arezzo Prosecutor's Office investigated an incident occurring on April 23 aboard a regional train traveling between Arezzo and San Giovanni Valdarno. A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kissing a sleeping passenger on the lips without her consent. The suspect faces charges of sexual violence under Article 609-bis of the Italian penal code, and the case is currently awaiting judicial proceedings.
