Shawn Levy Disney production deal
Overview
Director Shawn Levy and his production company, 21 Laps Entertainment, have entered into a multi-year television production deal with Disney’s 20th Television. The agreement, which is set to begin in October 2027 following the expiration of his current arrangement with Netflix, involves Levy developing and producing series across various Disney platforms and brands.
While the deal moves his television business to Disney, Levy will maintain a relationship with Netflix to continue work on the ‘Stranger Things’ universe. Reports indicate that Netflix participated in a competitive bidding process, reportedly matching Disney’s offer to retain the producer.
In addition to the television deal, Levy has opted to direct Marvel Studios’ ‘Ghost Rider’ starring Ryan Gosling. This decision follows reports that he was pursued by Tom Cruise and Paramount to direct a sequel to ‘Days of Thunder’. According to reports from Puck, Cruise aggressively pursued Levy for the project, including a visit to the set of ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ as part of the recruitment effort. However, Levy declined the offer, and the directing role for the sequel has since been assigned to Jonathan Levine.
Levy’s partnership with Disney follows his recent success directing major films for the studio, including ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ starring Ryan Gosling.
