Shigeru Miyamoto work and gaming outlook

In late July 2026, Nintendo’s veteran creator Shigeru Miyamoto told Famitsu that he has no plans to retire and intends to remain active at the company for at least another decade, overseeing projects such as film adaptations, the Super Nintendo World theme park and the mobile title Pikmin Bloom. He emphasized that he will continue contributing even if his health were to fail.

A few days later, Miyamoto reiterated his limited personal gaming time, explaining that he rarely plays games himself and only picks up a controller to help his grandchildren when they are stuck. He linked this hands‑on assistance to Nintendo’s philosophy of shared fun and noted that he values staff members with interests beyond gaming, drawing inspiration from activities like gardening, music and caring for dogs, which have influenced titles such as Pikmin, Wii Music and Nintendogs.
