Sicily-Tunisia cultural and social cooperation
Overview
Cultural and social cooperation between Sicily and Tunisia has progressed through various collaborative initiatives. In September 2026, the photography exhibition ‘Terre de Sicile et Tunisie – Mémoire partagée’ opened in Gibellina, Italy. This project, a collaboration between the Italian association ‘I Colori della Vita’ and the Tunisian association ‘Didon et Enée’, focused on rural landscapes and agricultural traditions, with plans to move the collection to Tunis later in the year.
By October 2026, cooperation expanded into the humanitarian sector through a twinning initiative between Caritas Sicilia and Caritas Tunisia. Following a memorandum of understanding, a Tunisian delegation conducted a week-long visit to several Sicilian locations, including Palermo and Catania, to study migrant assistance and social support structures. Monsignor Antonio Raspanti, President of the Sicilian Episcopal Conference, stated that the initial phase of understanding regulatory environments is complete, paving the way for future joint projects to serve vulnerable populations.
