SICOM media salon in Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo hosted the inaugural Salon International de l’information, de la communication et des médias (SICOM) from September 17 to 19, 2026, at the Kintélé International Conference Centre. Organized by Association Hope, the event focused on the evolution of the media landscape, specifically the transition from traditional broadcasting to the digital age and the influence of artificial intelligence on journalism.

The salon also served to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the law that decriminalized the media profession in 2001. During the proceedings, participants called for the modernization of existing media legislation from 1991, 2001, and 2003 to better address digital audiovisual technologies and online platforms.

Discussions extended to the economic sustainability of media organizations, with proposals to activate a press support fund. Additionally, experts emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity, suggesting increased use of national languages such as Lingala and Kituba alongside French to reach wider audiences.
