Siegfried Marcus Automobile investment controversy

Overview

Siegfried Marcus Automobile initially reported plans to establish a production infrastructure in Turkey for its Marcus 5 model. Co-founder Özgür Baklan described the move as a “historic milestone” that would mark the first time a German passenger car brand established production in the country. The company claimed to be conducting technical and commercial evaluations with potential partners to support its manufacturing and export goals.

However, subsequent investigations by media ombudsman Faruk Bildirici revealed that the claims were based on a non-existent company. While the name refers to a historical Austrian inventor, there is no registered mass-production automotive manufacturer by that name in Germany. Reports indicated that the purported brand was linked to Özgür Baklan, a former food wholesale executive, and that a company previously known as Özgür Baklan Global Otomotiv had been renamed to Siegfried Marcus Global Otomotiv in August 2026.
