Overview

The Sizewell C nuclear energy project in Suffolk is advancing through various infrastructure and manufacturing developments.

In late August 2026, Kier and Breheny Civil Engineering were appointed to a £100m highways contract, replacing Galliford Try. This package includes the construction of a 6.5km link road and a 1.8km bypass, with completion expected between late 2027 and early 2028.

By September 2026, the project secured planning permission for a component factory at Avonmouth, near Bristol. This facility will manufacture 38,500 pre-cast concrete segments and tunnel heads for the station’s three marine tunnels. Production is slated to begin in 2028, with plans to transport at least 60 per cent of construction materials via rail and sea to minimize road congestion. The project is also implementing an employment and skills plan through the Civil Works Alliance to support local job creation.
