Slovak municipal transparency and election evaluations
Overview
Transparency International Slovakia (TIS) has released new data regarding governance and political processes in the country. Recent reports indicate that the 100 largest municipal governments have reached a historic average transparency score of 64.6%, with Stará Turá securing the top position. While property management scores improved, public procurement saw a decline.
In conjunction with upcoming municipal and regional elections, TIS evaluated pre-election campaigns. Of 57 candidates with expenditures exceeding 3,000 euros, 18 were rated as having a ‘Transparent campaign’, while 12 were classified as non-transparent and 27 received a rating of ‘Campaign with reservations’. The evaluation noted varying levels of transparency across major cities, including high ratings for several candidates in Košice and contrasting results for mayoral candidates in Bratislava.
