Slovakia student internet voucher program
Overview
The Slovak government announced the upcoming launch of the ‘Online žiak’ project, an initiative to provide electronic internet vouchers to eligible students. The program was designed to support primary and secondary school students with special educational needs or those living in material need, offering a voucher valued at 480 euros to cover 24 months of connectivity, hardware, and installation.
Following the announcement, the project officially launched, targeting approximately 48,000 students. The initiative is supported by a total budget of nearly €30 million, with €23.7 million provided by the European Union through the ‘Program Slovensko’. The program, which is scheduled to run until November 2028, aims to facilitate digital transformation and ensure equitable access to educational resources. While the vouchers cover broadband internet and necessary hardware like modems or routers, they cannot be used for mobile internet, television services, or devices such as laptops and tablets.
