Slovenian home insect-repellent guidance

Entities: Flies · Coffee grounds · Mosquitoes · Mosh Latifi · Clogged gutters

Overview

In late July 2026, Slovenian health guides began publishing DIY natural methods to keep biting insects away from homes. The first guide (21 July) detailed an essential‑oil spray made from lemon and eucalyptus, lasting about three hours, and listed alternatives such as lavender, cinnamon, thyme, citronella, tea‑tree and neem. It also offered a lemon‑clove bundle and an apple‑cider‑vinegar trap for flies, while emphasizing regular cleaning and sealing of entry points.

A follow‑up guide (27 July) expanded the focus to broader garden‑related pests, warning that clogged gutters, flower pots, bird feeders, bright lighting, grills, compost bins and pet food containers provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes, flies, ants, wasps and other insects. It added a home‑based deterrent using coffee grounds mixed with baking soda to create an unpleasant odor barrier, applied around waste bins or heated to release fumes. Both pieces stressed that these natural measures should supplement, not replace, basic sanitation and hygiene practices.
