Slovenian political landscape and party controversies
Overview
Recent polling data from the Mediana Institute shows shifts in the Slovenian political landscape. The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) remains the leading party with 21.8% support, despite a slight decrease from September. The Freedom Movement follows with 19.4% support, while the Social Democrats (SD) rose to third place with 8.3% support. Public approval for the current ministerial team stands at 39.8%, while opposition is at 48.0%. In individual popularity rankings, President Nataša Pirc Musar has returned to the top position.
Political tensions have since escalated following reports of disinformation and internal friction. The weekly Mladina alleges that the SDS has led disinformation campaigns, claiming a public relations advisor in the Prime Minister’s office encouraged the sharing of partisan and discrediting content in closed chat groups.
Concurrently, former Speaker of the National Assembly Milan Brglez has distanced himself from the Social Democrats. Brglez criticized the actions of Kranj Mayor Matjaž Rakovc, an SD member, and questioned the integrity of the current Speaker of the National Assembly regarding an auction and a donation. While Brglez has not formally resigned from the SD, he stated he has stopped paying membership fees.
