Overview
SMA Solar Technology has inaugurated a new ‘Gigawatt Factory’ in Niestetal, Germany, representing an investment of approximately 80 million euros. The 46,000-square-meter facility is designed to manufacture central inverters, energy management devices, and storage solutions to support utility-scale technologies, including photovoltaics, battery storage, hydrogen, and data center applications.
At full capacity, the plant is expected to reach an annual production capacity of more than 60 gigawatts. The company stated that the investment aims to strengthen Europe’s industrial capabilities and provide critical infrastructure to stabilize grids and ensure a secure energy supply during the global energy transition.
