SMART-Water project digital monitoring initiative

Overview

The SMART-Water project has launched digital tools to monitor water quality in response to climate change. Funded by the Interreg VI-A IPA Program, the initiative involves Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, specifically targeting the freshwater ecosystems of Lake Vransko, Lake Deransko, and Lake Skadar.

Technological implementations include a WEB GIS platform for geospatial data integration, a shared database, and an online remote satellite monitoring system. The project also utilizes AI/ML predictive models to monitor water quality in near real-time. To support management of these sensitive environments, the project has produced an educational guide on lake water quality.
