Sónar festival restructuring and leadership change

Overview

The Barcelona-based electronic music festival, Sónar, announced a major transition following a marketing campaign stating “Sónar has died” and listing the dates “1994-2026.” This signals the end of the festival’s current era and the departure of its three founders: Enric Palau, Ricard Robles, and Sergio Caballero. They will be succeeded by Belgian director François Jozic.

As part of a new strategic direction, organizers plan to move the daytime edition and the Sónar+D technology and contemporary art fair to Port Vell in Barcelona starting in 2027 to return to the festival’s urban and seaside roots. The nighttime edition is expected to remain at the L’Hospitalet fairgrounds.

Prior to the restructuring announcement, the festival released its 2026 lineup for the June 18 to 20 event at Fira Gran Via. The lineup includes 65 new acts, such as Prodigy, Skepta, Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, Dom Dolla, and Daniel Avery.
