In early August 2026 São Paulo’s cultural program continued to expand. The inclusive concert at the historic Theatro Municipal on 8 November, organized by Instituto Olga Kos, featured 150 musicians and singers, including the Municipal Youth Symphony Orchestra, with free entry in exchange for a one‑kilogram non‑perishable food donation. From 4 to 6 August the International Academy of Cinema’s 14th Semana de Cinema e Mercado took place at INK Studios, offering panels on regulation, diversity and AI‑driven audiovisual formats. The Instituto Poiesis’s Fábricas de Cultura in Capão Redondo and Jardim São Luiz ran a month‑long schedule of literary readings, circus shows, music performances, writing workshops and climate‑debate activities. The 11th Festival Curta Campos do Jordão kept its short‑film submission window open until 31 July. The 8th Festa Literária Pirata das Editoras Independentes (Flipei) returned to central São Paulo from 5 to 9 August, hosting more than 180 invited guests and 65 debate tables across venues such as Espaço Cultural Elza Soares, Café Colombiano, Prato do Dia and Central 1926. Participants included international scholars Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Gideon Levy, Medea Benjamin, Augusto Nimtz, Rick Blackman and Tal Nitzan, as well as Brazilian figures Luiza Erundina, Cida Bento, Cidinha da Silva and Txai Suruí. Debates covered the Israel‑Palestine conflict, maternity, zero‑fare public transport, psychedelics, mental health, abortion rights, racial and gender violence, climate justice, artificial intelligence, independent publishing and bibliodiversity. The festival’s strong comeback after a 2025 censorship attempt reaffirmed its role as a platform for critical literary and social discourse in Brazil. The 28th São Paulo Book Fair (Bienal do Livro) will run 4‑13 September 2026 at the Anhembi district, covering 86 000 m²—28 % larger than 2024—and hosting 269 exhibitors. Organisers expect up to 700 000 visitors. A “cashback” scheme converts the ticket price into book‑credit after 5 p.m.
