Social and agroecological initiatives in Spain

Various local initiatives have been launched in Spain to address social and environmental challenges through community-based projects.

In Albacete, Cáritas Diocesana de Albacete and Fundación El Sembrador inaugurated ‘El Sembrador para llevar’. This social economy project aims to combat food waste and promote labor market integration for vulnerable individuals by collecting food surpluses from the agri-food and distribution sectors to create prepared meals. The initiative is part of the ‘Maná – Alimentando el futuro’ project, supported by Cáritas Española and the European Social Fund Plus.

In Alcaudete, the ‘Semillas de memoria’ project was launched to recover and reinterpret traditional agroecological knowledge. Led by the association Iguales en Acción, the initiative focuses on preserving ancestral wisdom regarding land, water, and seed management. Supported by local municipalities and funded by the Fondo Andaluz de Municipios para la Solidaridad Internacional, the project utilizes participatory methodologies to foster intergenerational co-creation and establish a network of ‘guardians of traditional knowledge’ as part of the European NOPLANETB project.
