Social and mental health services in Czechia
Overview
Social services for homeless populations are undergoing changes in Czech cities. In Ostrava, the city is initiating early winter assistance, with the Salvation Army opening its winter night center on November 1 to provide warmth and reduce pressure on emergency services. Meanwhile, Prague is seeing a decrease in low-threshold day centers, as some facilities transition to field programs. The organization Naděje has raised concerns that field programs cannot fully replace physical centers due to the lack of stationary infrastructure for hygiene and privacy.
In a separate development regarding social support, new specialized facilities are being established for children and adolescents. A multidisciplinary mental health center is launching in Hradec Králové to provide clinical and home-based support for those aged six to eighteen. Additionally, the BRIM center has been established in Ostrava to offer special pedagogical counseling and speech development support in a collaborative environment for children and parents.
