Solana network disinflation governance approval

Overview

Solana validators have narrowly approved governance proposal SGP-0002, also referred to as “Double Disinflation.” The measure passed with approximately 67% support, clearing the required two-thirds supermajority by a margin of only 0.33 percentage points.

Under the approved SIMD-0550 parameter change, the network’s annual disinflation rate will accelerate from 15% to 30%. While the long-term terminal inflation target remains fixed at 1.5%, this acceleration is expected to reach that milestone in approximately 2.8 years, down from the previous estimate of 5.7 years. The change is projected to reduce total SOL issuance by roughly 18.9 million tokens over the next six years.

The vote was characterized by significant shifts in behavior during the final minutes, including reports that Kraken reversed its position and JitoSOL holders utilized an override mechanism. The decision presents an economic trade-off, as it reduces token dilution for holders but is expected to decrease staking yields for validators and delegators.
