Solar farm conversions in Brandenburg

In July 2026, municipal councils in the Potsdam‑Mittelmark district approved two separate renewable‑energy projects that repurpose former sand and stone quarries. On 21 July, the Treuenbrietzen council voted to turn the exhausted Rietz quarry into a ground‑mounted photovoltaic installation while keeping a portion for continued sand extraction, following a public consultation with little opposition. A week later, on 27 July, the Kloster Lehnin council adopted a plan to develop the former Vogelstangenberg quarry near Damsdorf into a solar park. The original 75 MWp scheme was scaled down to about 4 MWp, enough to supply electricity to roughly 1,250 households. Both projects await final construction permits from the county, marking a coordinated effort by local authorities to convert former extractive sites into renewable‑energy assets.
