Somali military security and defense cooperation

Somalia is engaging in a series of high-level military diplomatic visits to strengthen its national security and counter-terrorism capabilities.

In mid-August, Somali Army Chief Major General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud visited Ankara to meet with Turkish defense officials. The discussions, involving Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler and Turkish Army Chief General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, focused on enhancing military coordination, expanding training programs, and providing equipment support to the Somali National Army.

Following this, military leaders from Djibouti and the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) arrived in Mogadishu. Djiboutian Chief of Staff General Zakaria Cheikh Ibrahim met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss security cooperation and the coordination of operations under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Concurrently, IMCTC Secretary General Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi launched initiatives to enhance the capacity of Somali security agencies through institutional building and media-focused security programs.
