Somalia aviation and administrative modernization
Overview
Somalia is undertaking efforts to modernize its aviation sector and administrative infrastructure. The government is preparing to relaunch its national carrier, Somali Airlines, for the first time since it ceased operations in 1991. To support this revival, the government has announced the purchase of two Airbus A320 aircraft.
In conjunction with broader efforts to rebuild administrative systems, the Somali federal government has also implemented a new security mandate for domestic travel. Passengers are now required to present a National Identity Card (NIRA) for all domestic flights to improve identity verification and coordination between aviation and security agencies.
