South American academic technological innovation

Overview

Academic institutions in Chile and Paraguay are implementing various initiatives to advance technological innovation and collaboration.

In Chile, the University of Santiago de Chile (Usach) has initiated a participatory process to design its FACTEC Innovation Hub. Supported by the Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DINEM), the project engages faculty, staff, and students to identify opportunities for the new academic space. Dean Sebastián Aguirre Boza noted the objective is to “strengthen innovation capacities by involving the community from the design stage.”

In Paraguay, the Universidad Católica hosted the INNOTEC 2026 congress, attracting more than 800 participants. The event covered fields such as technology, engineering, architecture, and design, with specific focus areas including artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainability. The congress also featured a hackathon to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and creative problem-solving among students.
