South Carolina child assault investigation

In Spartanburg, South Carolina, 35-year-old Taylor Morgan Gosnell was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder following an alleged attack on her two children, aged 3 and 6.

Authorities report the assault occurred on September 26 at a residence on Bud Arthur Bridge Road. Investigators stated that Gosnell used a knife and a blunt object, resulting in approximately 50 stab wounds to the children. Medical officials noted that the 6-year-old sustained severe injuries to an arm and fingers, with potential amputation required. Some lacerations were reported to be deep enough to reach the bone.

New details indicate the incident was discovered after the 6-year-old called his grandmother to report that he and his sister were home alone and hungry. Upon arriving at the residence, the grandmother and a friend found the children with significant injuries. Evidence at the scene, including smashed televisions and mirrors, suggested a violent struggle. Investigators also noted the children had been struck with a baseball bat.

Both children were initially treated at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Greenville for further surgeries. Gosnell was detained after returning to the scene and is being held without bond. In addition to the attempted murder charges, she faces warrants for possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
