South Korean semiconductor-focused ETF launches

Overview

South Korean asset managers have introduced several new Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) targeting the semiconductor sector.

Initially, firms such as Mirae Asset Global Investments, Samsung Asset Management, and Korea Investment Management launched bond-mixed ETFs designed for retirement pension accounts. These funds aim to provide stable income by combining semiconductor stocks, such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, with US Treasury or domestic government bonds.

Following these launches, KB Asset Management introduced the ‘RISE Global AI NAND Memory Semiconductor’ ETF. This fund specifically targets the NAND memory value chain to capitalize on AI-driven demand for data storage. Unlike the previous bond-mixed retirement funds, this ETF invests in a global selection of companies across South Korea, the United States, and Japan, utilizing an index that employs natural language processing to identify stocks related to AI-essential memory components.
