Vietnam’s live-pig market experienced a sustained downward trajectory through mid-August, with prices approaching actual livestock production costs. By August 15, rates in Northern Vietnam fluctuated between 56,000 and 58,000 VND/kg, while the Central-Highlands and Southern provinces saw prices drop to 56,000 VND/kg. Ho Chi Minh City averaged 58,000 VND/kg. Following a recovery in late August where prices rose to between 57,000 and 60,000 VND/kg, the market experienced a localized downward adjustment in Northern Vietnam on August 29. In provinces such as Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, and Ninh Binh, prices dropped by 1,000 VND/kg to 59,000 VND/kg. Despite this dip, Northern Vietnam continued to maintain the country’s highest price levels, with Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Phu Tho, and Hung Yen holding steady at 60,000 VND/kg. In early September, prices experienced a further decline from the 60,000 VND/kg mark. As of September 2, market rates have stabilized between 57,000 and 59,000 VND/kg, facing pressure from low purchasing power and competition from inexpensive imported meat. National prices are currently moving within the 57,000 to 60,000 VND/kg range.
