Space exploration and astronomy events in Italy
Overview
Space exploration and astronomy-themed events are being organized across various Italian locations.
In Olbia, the fourth Aerospace Festival organized by Astec has concluded. The summit focused on Sardinia’s potential role in the space economy and technologies for lunar and Martian exploration. A significant highlight was the ‘Small Mission to Mars’ project, developed within the Sardinia Aerospace District, which aims for a national Mars surface landing by 2031. Discussions also emphasized In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), focusing on technologies to manufacture structural components from lunar or Martian soil to minimize the need for transporting materials from Earth.
New cultural initiatives are also launching in Milan and Forlì. In Milan, the Spazio Bergognone will host ‘Luna: A Journey to the Moon’ starting October 15, 2026. This Fever-branded virtual reality experience allows participants to relive the Apollo 11 mission, from astronaut training and the Saturn V launch to the moonwalk.
In Forlì, the Gruppo Astrofili Forlivesi ‘J. Hevelius’ APS is hosting a free public lecture series titled ‘Alla scoperta del Sistema Solare’ (Discovering the Solar System). Held at Sala Campostrino every Friday from October 16 to November 6, 2026, the sessions will cover topics ranging from the inner planets and asteroid belt to gas giants and the outer reaches of the solar system.
