The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has finalized the relocation of the U-20 friendly match between Spain and Mexico. Originally scheduled for September 30 at the Alfonso Murube Stadium in Ceuta, the match will now take place at the Cerro del Espino stadium in Majadahonda, Madrid. Madrid, at 20:30. The move follows security recommendations from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior and the National Police, who advised against the event in Ceuta due to ‘exceptional migratory pressure and social tension’ following a large influx of migrants from Morocco in late July. Authorities cited the need for extraordinary police resources to manage both the football match and the ongoing migratory situation. The relocation drew criticism from the local government of Ceuta and the Ceuta Football Federation, who argued the city had a right to host national matches and that the event could have served to ‘project an image of normalcy for the region.’ The Spanish squad, managed by Paco Gallardo and composed primarily of the 2007 generation that won the Under-19 European Championship, is scheduled to convene on Sunday night. Training sessions will be held at the Las Rozas Football City on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for the match, which serves as preparation for next year’s Under-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
