In early July 2026 Spain announced launched a State Fertilizer Plan aimed at supporting farmers that will run through 2027. By the end of the month, both Spain and Portugal were rolling out emergency subsidy schemes. Spain’s 2027, allocating €665 million package, targeting to more than 424,000 farmers and livestock owners, set a 27 July deadline for applications, but technical problems with applications due by 27 July. Technical glitches on the FEGA platform prompted farmer groups to request a deadline seek an extension. The first round, funded with €28.5 million, will support over 500 applications covering more than 1,000 hectares of voluntary crop abandonment to relieve pressure on the Doñana aquifer. Rollout has been delayed by procedural complications and slow document transmission from the Junta de Andalucía and local municipalities, especially in Lucena del Puerto, Huelva. Officials expect a second list of beneficiaries in September or October and a third round later in the year.
