Spain tax agency expands digital invoicing and call center

In late July 2026 the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) highlighted the scale of its 2025 income‑tax filing campaign, reporting that more than 7 million phone interactions were managed through a cloud‑based platform supplied by Telefónica and powered by Zoom Phone. The system handled up to 637,000 calls in a single day, maintained 7,200 simultaneous agent connections and achieved a 99 % technical success rate, supporting the filing of 25.6 million returns.

A few days later the agency announced that the Verifactu digital invoicing system would become mandatory for freelancers and companies starting in 2025, extending the same Telefónica‑Zoom contact‑centre infrastructure to aid taxpayers. While the invoicing rollout aims to digitise invoice recording, the new Verifactu logo attracted criticism from designers for its chaotic appearance. Together, these steps illustrate the agency’s push to modernise tax submission and assistance through high‑volume digital and telephonic services.
