In late July 2026, Catalonia launched government‑funded youth work camps that combined archaeological excavation with the restoration of Civil‑War sites such as the Battle of the Ebro trenches, the Pinell de Brai, Caseres and Ascó. Participants uncovered historic ammunition and repaired historic structures, with the programmes overseen by the Fundació Escolta Josep Carner, the Consorci Memorial d’Espais de la Batalla de l’Ebre and the Catalan Department of Youth.

A week later, in early August 2026, a related initiative unfolded in other Spanish regions. The fifth edition of the Duratón archaeology conference was scheduled for May 2026, while the Xunta de Galicia’s "Modo Verán Activo" programme announced two volunteer camps in Deza and Tabeirós‑Montes. Over 600 young volunteers were to engage in heritage documentation, environmental clean‑ups and cultural workshops, supported by regional cultural and youth authorities. Both the Catalan and Galician efforts illustrate a broader push across Spain to involve young people in preserving and promoting regional cultural heritage through hands‑on projects and educational events.
