Spanish construction firms international expansion

Overview

Spanish construction and infrastructure firms are expanding their international and domestic presence through significant contract acquisitions. Initially, major companies including ACS, Ferrovial, Acciona, and FCC were identified as competitors for a 61 billion euro public works project in Australia involving high-speed rail tunnels.

Subsequently, ACS has successfully secured several major projects. In Australia, its subsidiary UGL has partnered with Vocus on the ‘Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform’, a fiber optic project valued at approximately 500 million Australian dollars. ACS also obtained a 450 million euro contract for the modernization of correctional and healthcare facilities.

In Spain, ACS has been awarded the first phase of the new Army Logistics Base (BLET) General Javier Varela in Córdoba. Valued at approximately 391 million euros, this project will be executed via subsidiaries Dragados and Vias to provide civil engineering and construction for logistics and weapons system maintenance.
