Spanish Navy NATO maritime deployment

Overview

On September 26, the Spanish Navy initiated a naval deployment featuring the frigates Navarra (F-85) and Cristóbal Colón (F-105). Departing from the Gulf of Cádiz, the mission is scheduled to run until November 2.

The deployment involves transit through the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The vessels are set to integrate into the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2) and participate in the NATO Neptune Strike 26.4 (NEST 26.4) exercise to improve interoperability with allied navies, such as those of Greece and Italy.

Additional mission objectives include support for Operation Sea Guardian and surveillance and deterrence operations in the Alboran Sea. The deployment, led by Captain Rafael Mira Calvo, includes scheduled stops in Split, Croatia, and Naples, Italy, to facilitate defense diplomacy.
