By the end of July, OCU released a second alert describing a new “QRishing” scheme. Criminals affix counterfeit QR‑code stickers to vehicle windshields, disguising them as official traffic notices. When scanned, the codes direct drivers to fake agency or bank sites that harvest personal and banking information, facilitating account theft and unauthorized purchases. OCU advises motorists to avoid scanning unexpected QR codes, verify URLs, and report suspicious stickers.
