Spanish regional language education initiatives

Overview

Spanish regional governments are implementing various programs to support language learning and instruction. In Aragon and Galicia, authorities are expanding language assistant programs in public schools. Aragon is deploying 104 assistants from 13 nationalities to support 106 educational centers to promote linguistic and cultural competence. In Galicia, the Xunta has approved a 1.8 million euro contract to provide assistants to 320 plurilingual public centers, following a previous pause caused by administrative conflicts with the Ministry of Education.

Separately, the Junta de Castilla y León has focused on international promotion by organizing a didactic workshop in Bern, Switzerland. This initiative, held in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy, aimed to train educators in Spanish as a Foreign Language through the use of digital tools and Artificial Intelligence. The event also served to promote Salamanca as a destination for Spanish language studies.
