Spanish veterinary professional celebrations
Overview
Veterinary professional associations in Spain held ceremonies in Madrid and Ciudad Real to celebrate the feast day of San Francisco de Asís, the patron saint of the profession.
In Madrid, the Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Madrid (COLVEMA) hosted an academic-professional event at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid to honor 22 honorary members. During the ceremony, COLVEMA President Felipe Vilas discussed the profession’s social responsibilities regarding food security and disease prevention, while also noting sector challenges such as labor conditions, salaries, and professional retention in rural areas.
In Ciudad Real, the Colegio de Veterinarios de Ciudad Real organized a commemorative act attended by local officials, including Mayor Francisco Cañizares. The event included the presentation of badges to new members, long-serving professionals, and retirees, with local leaders emphasizing the veterinary field’s contributions to public health and food safety.
