Sparkasse Iserlohn embezzlement investigation

Overview

A former employee of Sparkasse Iserlohn is under investigation by the Hagen prosecutor's office for allegedly embezzling tens of thousands of euros from customer accounts. The suspect is accused of unauthorizedly transferring funds to his own personal accounts, with investigations focusing on transactions occurring between 2024 and 2025.

The embezzlement was difficult to detect because some affected accounts belonged to deceased individuals. The legal proceedings stem from two separate reports: one regarding suspected money laundering from the Main Customs Office and another from a suspicious activity report filed by Sparkasse Iserlohn.

The bank stated that unauthorized bookings were discovered at the beginning of the year and confirmed the individual is no longer employed there. Sparkasse Iserlohn reported that its security and audit routines functioned correctly and that the institution has proactively reimbursed the affected customers, including the heirs of deceased account holders.
