Sports revitalization in Republic of the Congo

Overview

Various sports disciplines are seeing a resurgence in the Republic of the Congo through organized national competitions.

In early October 2026, the Congolese Federation of Jujitsu and Self-Defence held its first national championships in several years at the Henri-Elendé gymnasium in Brazzaville. Approximately 140 athletes from six departments competed in Ne-Waza and Fighting System styles. Brazzaville led the event, winning 11 of the 17 gold medals available.

Later in the month, the Dynamique pour le réveil du handball congolais launched qualifying matches for a major gala tournament scheduled for December in Brazzaville. These qualifiers, following six months of preparation, include men’s and women’s teams competing in both Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire.
