Sri Lanka digital administrative transitions
Overview
Sri Lanka has begun implementing digital transformation initiatives across its judicial and customs sectors.
In late September, the Colombo District Court launched the first phase of the island-wide e-Courts Project. This system, developed by Sri Lanka Telecom and the Judicial Service Commission, allows registered attorneys to submit cases and documents electronically 24 hours a day. The initiative aims to replace paper-based processes to reduce administrative delays and physical travel.
Following this, Sri Lanka Customs transitioned to a paperless declaration process on October 1. Importers are now required to submit all declarations and supporting documentation electronically via the ASYCUDA system using digital signatures. This new framework is designed to create an audit trail to prevent fraud and corruption while facilitating more efficient inspections.
