Stablecoin payment infrastructure expansion

Overview

In late July 2026, Western Alliance Bank launched WA VenueX™, a 24‑hour U.S.‑dollar instant‑settlement network that provides real‑time liquidity for institutional counterparties and supports stablecoin transactions through API‑driven access and tokenization.

In early August 2026, Western Union, together with crypto‑payments firm Rain, introduced Stablecard – a Visa‑secured credit card backed by the USDPT stablecoin issued on the Solana blockchain. The product combines a digital wallet with the Visa card, allowing users to receive Western Union remittances directly into a USDPT wallet, hold dollar‑value balances to hedge against local‑currency volatility, and spend instantly at any Visa‑accepting merchant or ATM, including via Apple Pay and Google Pay. At launch the service is available in 37 markets, with a target of more than 60 markets by year‑end. "Stablecard represents the next step in making global financial services more accessible to our customers," said Devin McGranahan, President and CEO of Western Union.

These developments illustrate a rapid broadening of stablecoin‑based services, moving from institutional settlement infrastructure to consumer‑facing payment products, and signal traditional financial firms’ growing integration of regulated stablecoins into everyday transactions.
