STEAM and STEM educational initiatives in Latin America
Overview
Educational programs in Costa Rica and Chile are implementing various initiatives to promote interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) and STEM fields among students.
In Costa Rica, the ‘Soy Cambio’ program by Fundación Monge provided intensive training for 155 eleventh grade students to develop leadership and employability skills.
In Chile, efforts to bridge gender gaps and foster scientific curiosity include the ‘Experiencia Encuentros’ project in the Maule region and the “Energía en Acción” program in Puchuncaví, which utilizes science fairs and technological materials for students. Other regional efforts include engineering outreach for elementary students in Los Andes and the Universidad de La Frontera’s Calculus Olympics, a nationwide competition for high school students.
