Stefanos Tsitsipas at Shanghai Masters

Stefanos Tsitsipas has progressed through the early rounds of the Shanghai Masters. He first defeated Belgian qualifier Kimmer Coppejans in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, a match characterized by a consistent serve that prevented his opponent from earning break points.

Tsitsipas subsequently reached the third round by defeating Luciano Darderi 6-3, 6-4. This victory marked a major career milestone, as he became the 100th player in the Open Era to achieve 400 career ATP wins. He is now one of only nine active players to reach this mark, joining Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka, Gaël Monfils, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev. The win was particularly symbolic, occurring at the same venue where Tsitsipas secured his first career tour victory nine years ago. This victory moved him from 44th to 38th in the live ATP rankings.

Following his milestone win, Tsitsipas faced Taylor Fritz in the round of 16. Despite dropping the first set, the Greek player secured a comeback victory with a score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. He was then scheduled to face Daniil Medvedev in the next round.

In the subsequent match, Tsitsipas was defeated by Medvedev in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. Medvedev, ranked world No. 6, maintained a dominant service game, winning 85% of points on his first serve and facing zero break points. The loss extends Medvedev’s head-to-head record against Tsitsipas to 11-5. Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face the winner of the match between Tommy Paul and Jurij Brgman.
