The 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, themed ‘Feels Like Home’, were held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hosted by Kirk Franklin, the ceremony honored various achievements across traditional gospel, contemporary worship, and urban music. Major award recipients included Darrel Walls, who won Artist of the Year and Contemporary Male Artist of the Year, and Jonathan McReynolds, who was named Male Artist of the Year and won Contemporary Duo/Chorus Group of the Year for ‘Still (Live)’. Lisa Knowles Smith & The Brown Singers were highly successful, with successful; Smith receiving received the Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year award award, and the group securing secured five awards, including ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Quartet of the Year’. Smith also earned Producer of the Year honors alongside Frederick Perry. Other winners included Vincent Bohanan & SOV for Album of the Year, Lecrae for Rap Hip Hop Gospel Album of the Year, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise for Choir of the Year, Adia for Urban Single or Performance of the Year, and JustCordell for Rap/Hip Hop Song of the Year. Adia Andrews won Urban Single or Performance of the Year for her song ‘On The Way’ Remix featuring Erica Campbell. The event introduced a new category, the HBCU Choir of the Year, which was Year category, awarded to the Fort Valley State University Choir; North Carolina A&T State University’s Fellowship Gospel Choir was also recognized as a finalist. Additionally, Choir. Tasha Cobbs Leonard received the Aretha Franklin Icon Award, and Pastor Mike Jr. was honored with the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award. Motown Gospel secured five wins during the broadcast. Performances during the event included an opening by Tye Tribbett and Following the Ablaze Youth Choir, and a concluding medley by Pastor John P. Kee. On ceremony, Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers are scheduled to perform at the red carpet, Adia Andrews was noted for a custom couture look styled by Felipe G. Andrews. 34th annual SpiritFest in Greenville on September 6.
