STEM and biotechnology education initiatives in South Am

Overview

Educational institutions in Chile and Peru are implementing various initiatives to advance scientific, technological, and STEM-based learning.

In Chile, universities have focused on biotechnology and scientific outreach. The Universidad Austral de Chile hosted a scientific bootcamp for students to engage in practical experiences like discovering microorganisms and creating biopolymers. Additionally, the Universidad Andrés Bello organized research poster sessions in molecular biology and microbiology, involving high school students to encourage interest in scientific careers.

Efforts have also expanded into technological infrastructure. In Paipote, Chile, the Instituto Fernando Ariztía Ruiz inaugurated a MakerSTEM classroom featuring robotics, programming, and augmented reality to align with Industry 4.0 standards. Similarly, in Puno, Peru, the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano is developing new infrastructure to include specialized laboratories for artificial intelligence and augmented reality.
