Student and child safety incidents in Latin America

Overview

Reports have emerged regarding various incidents involving the safety and well-being of minors in Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.

In Mexico, a mother in Altamira, Tamaulipas, reported that her 13-year-old son allegedly lost a kidney following an assault by two other students near a school. In Argentina, parents in Hipatia have demanded answers from the Ministry of Education regarding the alleged abuse of their son during a school camp and reported a history of bullying at the institution.

In Argentina, a march has been organized for November 13 to demand justice for two-year-old Julián Emiliano Benítez, who died in Lomas de Zamora after being struck by a police vehicle during a pursuit. An officer has been charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter and breach of official duties. Meanwhile, in Chile, the family of a two-year-old named Derek is protesting the Aysén Health Service following his death in Villa Cerro Castillo. The family alleges irregularities in medical care and has expressed frustration over delays in autopsy reports, though health officials state they have addressed community concerns.
