Student housing subsidies in Slovenia and Croatia
Overview
Student housing subsidy and application processes for the upcoming academic year have been established in Slovenia and Croatia.
In Slovenia, the national deadline for student housing applications via the eVŠ portal is 18 August 2026. The University of Maribor Student Dormitories confirmed this deadline for both new and returning residents. For the 2026/2027 year, Maribor has 12,883 subsidized places available, including 32 spots reserved for students with international or temporary protection. Monthly subsidies in Slovenia are set at 41.46 euros for public dormitories and 103.36 euros for private accommodation. Following the application deadline, the first priority list is expected to be published by 18 September, with applicants being notified of their eligibility after 19 October 2026.
In Croatia, the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth has lowered the eligibility threshold to 1,255 points, providing a quota of 1,000 subsidized private-housing places in Zagreb and Zagreb County for the 2025/2026 academic year. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the Zagreb Student Center has released move-in regulations. Regular move-in for subsidized accommodation is scheduled from 1 September to 21 September 2026. Students may opt for early move-in starting 27 August 2026. Authorities warned that failure to move in during the designated period or failure to complete reservation payments could result in the loss of subsidized housing rights.
