Student illnesses following Divčibare school trip

Overview

At least 21 students from the ‘Žarko Zrenjanin’ elementary school in Novi Sad experienced gastrointestinal symptoms, including vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever, following a recreational trip to Divčibare. While initial reports suggested up to 80 children might have been affected, health authorities suspected viral gastroenteritis.

An epidemiological investigation by the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina and the Valjevo Institute of Public Health identified unsatisfactory sanitary and hygienic conditions in the kitchen area of the ‘Heba’ hotel.

In response, Hotel Heba issued a denial, stating that the definitive cause of the illnesses has not been established and that hygiene findings do not constitute a final epidemiological conclusion. Meanwhile, consumer protection advocates noted that parents may be entitled to price reductions if services were found to be incomplete or not provided according to their agreement.
