Sunedu oversight of Peruvian higher education

Overview

Peru’s National Superintendency of Higher University Education (Sunedu) has engaged in both emergency infrastructure assessments and strategic policy dialogues.

In Ica, Sunedu conducted diagnostic inspections at the Universidad Nacional San Luis Gonzaga to evaluate structural risks following seismic activity and in preparation for the El Niño phenomenon. These inspections, necessitated by the closure of certain pavilions due to earthquake damage, aim to provide the technical documentation required for the university to request state resources under emergency status.

Separately, Sunedu met with the Federation of Private Higher Education Institutions (FIPES) to collaborate on the V Biennial Report on University Reality. The discussions focused on improving the diagnostic of the educational landscape and developing university ranking indicators. FIPES representatives advocated for indicators that reflect institutional diversity rather than uniform grading, while Sunedu emphasized that dialogue with institutions representing the majority of student enrollment is essential for effective public policy regarding educational quality.
